Raymond Scott Orchestrette
The 7-piece, NYC-based Raymond Scott Orchestrette performs vintage works by Scott covering his novelty jazz outfits of the 1930s, rarely-heard orchestral pieces, and acoustic renditions of Scott’s 1960s electronic works. The RSO brings Scott’s controlled lunacy into the 21st century. The impishness and daredevil colors of the compositions remain, but the arrangements (mostly by pianist Wayne Barker and accordionist Will Holshouser) are far gone from what the composer envisioned. The RSO draws from modern jazz, progressive rock, musette, swing, noise-art, chamber, and lounge grooves to splash a colorful and exciting musical canvas that is laced with humor. The late composer would be proud to know contemporary musicians are keeping his legacy alive. Below are excerpts from 11 album tracks. Buy the full album or single tracks at: iTunes. Amazon.
